What is Oral Health Stabilisation?

Oral health stabilisation focuses on treating dental problems that are causing pain, infection or discomfort, and helping to prevent existing issues from developing into urgent or emergency conditions in the future.

Our aim is to provide the treatment needed to stabilise your oral health and reduce the risk of significant dental problems.

What Treatment May Be Included?

Our aim is to provide the treatment needed to stabilise your oral health and reduce
the risk of significant dental problems.

Assessment
Some patients may require treatment over several appointments. Where there are multiple dental concerns, treatment may be provided in phases to ensure urgent issues are addressed first before moving on to further stabilisation treatment.

Examinations
Following an urgent appointment, patients may be offered a full dental examination and additional treatment where appropriate to help improve and maintain their oral health.

Quayside Dental Centre provides NHS dental treatment, with charges set nationally by the NHS.

The cost of treatment depends on the care you need.

Urgent dental treatment
£27.90Urgent treatment can include:
Examination, assessment, X-rays and advice
Dressing of teeth (a temporary filling)
Emergency partial root canal treatment, for example, pulpectomy or vital pulpotomy
Management of a knocked-out tooth or any necessary treatment needed for an injury
Refixing inlays, crowns and bridges
Removing up to 2 teeth
Aftercare, including treatment for infections
Adjustment and alteration of false teeth (dentures) or orthodontic appliances, such as braces
Urgent treatment for severe conditions that come on suddenly, such as ulcers and herpetic lesions
Treatment of sensitive teeth which affects parts of the tooth called the cementum or dentine
Draining a dental abscess and treating any infection
1 urgent filling (routine and non-urgent fillings are a band 2 treatment)

Things patients often ask.

Will all my dental problems be sorted in one appointment?

Not always. Where there are multiple concerns, treatment is often provided in phases, addressing the most urgent issues first before moving on to further stabilisation treatment. Your dentist will explain your treatment plan and what to expect at each stage.

What’s the difference between urgent dental treatment and oral health stabilisation?

Urgent dental treatment addresses immediate pain, infection or discomfort, while oral health stabilisation focuses on the follow-up care needed to prevent those issues from recurring or developing into further problems. Many patients receive both as part of the same course of care.

What happens after my urgent treatment is finished?

Once your urgent issue has been treated, you may be offered a full dental examination and any further treatment needed to help improve and maintain your oral health. Your dentist will advise on next steps based on your individual needs.
