Dental crowns are usually made from alloy or porcelain and are custom made for you.

The tooth is numbed with local anaesthetic before any preparation work, so you shouldn’t feel pain during the procedure. You may experience some sensitivity for a short time afterwards, which usually settles on its own.
A well-fitted crown can last well over 10 years with good oral hygiene and regular check-ups. How long yours lasts will depend on factors such as the material used and how well it’s looked after.
You can usually eat and drink as normal once any numbness has worn off, although it’s sensible to avoid very hard or sticky foods for the first day or so with a temporary crown. Continue to brush and clean between your teeth as normal to keep the crown and surrounding gum healthy.
