Please contact NHS 111 if you have:

Broken or lost filling or crown
Toothache that is not getting better
Broken tooth that is causing discomfort
Sensitivity or swelling in the mouth
Gum problems causing pain or bleeding

NHS 111 will assess your needs and direct you to the most appropriate urgent dental service if required.

The cost of treatment depends on the care you need.

Urgent dental treatment
£27.90Urgent treatment can include:
Examination, assessment, X-rays and advice
Dressing of teeth (a temporary filling)
Emergency partial root canal treatment, for example, pulpectomy or vital pulpotomy
Management of a knocked-out tooth or any necessary treatment needed for an injury
Refixing inlays, crowns and bridges
Removing up to 2 teeth
Aftercare, including treatment for infections
Adjustment and alteration of false teeth (dentures) or orthodontic appliances, such as braces
Urgent treatment for severe conditions that come on suddenly, such as ulcers and herpetic lesions
Treatment of sensitive teeth which affects parts of the tooth called the cementum or dentine
Draining a dental abscess and treating any infection
1 urgent filling (routine and non-urgent fillings are a band 2 treatment)

Things patients often ask.

What counts as a dental emergency?

Dental emergencies include things like severe toothache that isn’t easing, a broken or knocked-out tooth, swelling in the mouth or face, and uncontrolled bleeding from the gums. If you’re unsure whether your problem is urgent, NHS 111 can assess this for you.

Can I book directly with Quayside Dental Centre for emergency treatment?

Emergency NHS appointments at Quayside Dental Centre are accessed through NHS 111 rather than booked directly. NHS 111 will assess your symptoms and, where appropriate, arrange an appointment with an urgent dental care provider.

What should I do if I knock out a tooth?

Try to find the tooth and hold it by the crown (not the root), rinsing it gently in milk or saline if it’s dirty – avoid scrubbing it. If possible, try placing it back in the socket, or store it in milk, and contact NHS 111 immediately, as quick action gives the best chance of saving the tooth.
