Quayside Dental Centre has been commissioned by NHS Gloucestershire to improve access to NHS dental care for patients who may face barriers to accessing services.

As a result, appointments are available only to patients who meet specific eligibility criteria.

What are dentures?

Dentures are removable dental appliances designed to replace missing teeth and restore functionality, aesthetics, and overall oral health; they can be ‘partial’ or ‘full’. This is dependent on the number of teeth that need replacing.

•What’s involved?

NHS care, made simple.

This treatment involves several steps. Once your dentist has conducted a thorough examination of your mouth, and evaluated your oral health needs, they will discuss the best type of denture for your needs.

During the first visit
Precise impressions mould of your mouth are taken to create a denture that fits perfectly and looks natural. A wax model may also be used to make precise details of your bite

Preparation
The dental laboratory technician will make a trial set of dentures for you to try in these are usually made from wax to give you an idea of what the finished dentures will look like, adjustments can be made at this stage.

Final placement
We’ll make final adjustments and provide guidance on care and maintenance. approval for the final denture can be made, the dentist will ensure the final dentures fit well and are comfortable. Some adjustments may be necessary once you begin to wear them.

The cost of treatment depends on the care you need.

£332.10Band 3 can include:
A type of cap that covers your real tooth (crown)
Restoring damaged teeth with inlays and onlays
False teeth (dentures) made from plastic or metal
A fixed replacement for a missing tooth or teeth (bridge)
Orthodontic treatment, such as braces, to improve the appearance, position and function of your teeth
Other custom-made appliances, not including sports guards

Things patients often ask.

How long does it take to get used to wearing dentures?

It’s common to need a few weeks to adjust to new dentures, particularly when it comes to eating and speaking. Your mouth will gradually adapt, and our team can offer advice and adjustments if you’re struggling.

How do I look after my dentures?

Dentures should be cleaned daily using a soft brush and a denture-specific cleaner, and ideally removed at night to give your gums a rest. Your dentist or dental therapist can show you the best way to clean and store your particular dentures.

Will my dentures need to be replaced over time?

Yes, the shape of your mouth changes gradually over time, which can affect how well your dentures fit. Regular dental check-ups allow us to monitor the fit and let you know if adjustments, relining or a replacement set are needed.
